About Peggy
I am a San Francisco Bay Area-based writer and editor. I love words: writing them, correcting them and often deleting them.
In my career, I have been a newspaper writer and editor, a magazine editor and a freelance writer and copyeditor. I’ve worked on online sites as a writer and editor as well. In addition, I have strong Content Marketing, Public Relations and Customer Service skills.
I bring a strong work ethic, a creative spirit, flexibility and a sense of professionalism to every project I encounter. Currently I run my own communications business but am always looking to build up my client base. I am also open to exploring full- and part-time remote communications or administrative positions.
Besides newspapers, magazines, and websites, my clients have included an ag-tech start-up, affordable housing enterprises, and boutique marketing agencies. In my freelance writing career, I have focused on governmental issues, healthcare, parenting, and senior issues, among other topics. From community gardens to wildfire safety, my portfolio is diverse and interesting.
From a journalism perspective, my clients have included the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, the Bay Area News Service/Local News Matters, the Concord/Clayton Pioneer, and editing positions at the Contra Costa Times, Bay Area Parent, Parents Press, and the Lamorinda Weekly. While at the Contra Costa Times, I oversaw seven weekly publications. At Bay Area Parent, I won six national Parenting Media Awards. Between the Times and the Lamorinda Weekly, I won eight California Newspaper Publishers Association awards.
I recently rebranded my independent contracting as Spearit Communications, to reflect the joy I get from my work as well as the breadth of my skills. I am computer savvy, able to build websites, work in tandem with AI, and expand my knowledge of various CRMs.
My diverse career has allowed me a healthy work/life balance. I currently reside in Concord, CA, with my husband Tony and our trusty dog, Lola.
